Govt clarifies it has no proposal to enact any mechanism to control population

The Government has clarified that it has no proposal to enact any mechanism to control population. Responding to supplementary in Lok Sabha today Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that as far as National Population Policy-2000 is concerned, the long-term objective is to achieve stable population by 2045.<br/><br/>She said the government is conducting a special awareness drive in 146 districts of 7 states to bring down Total Fertility Rate, TFR. She said, Mission Parivar Vikas has been launched in these high fertility districts. <br/><br/>The Minister informed that the sterilization compensation scheme has been enhanced in 11 high focused States to control the growth rate of population. She clarified that the object of population stabilization needs more time even after bringing down TFR. Ms. Patel said the government is also conducting special campaigns to increase percentage of male sterilization which is at present is only 0.3 per cent in comparison to women sterilization which stood at 36 per cent. She said, the government does not have any proposal to provide any benefits in education and employment to encourage single child norm.
