Govt calls for new vision for Promotion of Urdu Language

Government today called for preparing a national strategy to preserve the rich cultural heritage of Urdu language and literature. Speaking at the 18th meeting of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), in New Delhi, the Human Resource Development Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal also stressed the need to make study of Urdu relevant to the younger generation reflecting their aspirations. Mr. Sibal said that an Approach Paper has been prepared after thorough discussions with eminent personalities connected with Urdu language, literature and culture for its future growth and development. He pointed out that the government is preparing a National Vocational Educational Qualification Frame work, wherein efforts will be made to associate vocational education with this effort. The Minister said that the promotion of liberal arts associated with the Urdu language like calligraphy, painting, ghazal singing will be put on fast track. He also appreciated the efforts of the NCPUL in creating greater linkages between Urdu, Arabic and Persian, which are required.
