The Government has started consultations with its UPA partners on the oil price issue. The Petroleum Minister, Mr. Murli Deora met some UPA allies on Wednesday and continued consultations today as well. Reports say, the Trinamool Congress and DMK are yet to respond to the proposal. They are believed to be against any move to hike the prices of petroleum products.<br/><br/>To find a solution to the issue, the Petroleum Minister is meeting the Finance Minister this Sunday to explore if Government subsidy support can be increased to keep the price increase to the bear minimum. <br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that the Petroleum Ministry is in favour of implementing the recommendations of the Parikh Comittee Report which advocates that oil prices should be decided by the market forces before the commencement of Budget Session of Parliament. <br/><br/>The state run oil companies will suffer huge under recoveries of Rs. 46,000 crore this fiscal and only Rs. 20,000 crores is coming as subsidy support. Mr. Deora met the Prime Minister after the Cabinet Meeting and submitted him a memorandum seeking compensation for the shortfall in revenues. <br/><br/>The Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram while briefing reporters after the Cabinet Meeting said that the issue did not come up for discussion.
