Govt begins work on amalgamating 44 labour laws into 5 codes

The government has initiated a process of simplifying, rationalizing and amalgamating 44 labour laws into 5 codes. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya said that the Second National Law Commission on Labour has recommended that there is a need for clubbing existing Labour Laws into four or five Labour Codes on functional basis. <br/><br/>He said that as per the recommendations of Commission, Ministry has taken steps for drafting four Labour Codes on Wages, Industrial Relations, Social Security and Welfare and Safety and Working Conditions. The Minister informed the House that the process of Labour Law Reforms is being carried out in consultation with all stake holders and their views are also being duly considered by the government.
