Health and Family Welfare secretary B P Sharma said Kayakalp awards felicitate Public Health Facilities for maintaining high standards of sanitation and hygiene. In a felicitation ceremony of 1st Kayakalp awardees in New Delhi today, Mr. Sharma said, Kayakalp aspires to inculcate the culture of cleanliness to gain trust and confidence of community in public health facilities . <br/><br/>He added, this will help to achieving the goal of Swachch Bharat, as clean hospitals form an integral component of the larger Mission of Clean India.<br/><br/>This year the awards were given to the Central Government Hospitals and District Hospitals from 26 big states. Under the Central Government Hospitals category, the first prize of five crore rupees was given to the PGI Chandigarh, second prize of three crore rupees was given to the AIIMS Delhi and the third prize of One crore was given to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute Shillong. <br/><br/>The objectives of the Kayakalp award scheme are to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in public health care facilities.
