Ministers and officials in the Central government will not be able to use red beacons on their official vehicles from 1st of next month. Decision to do away with beacons of all kinds atop of all categories of vehicles in the country was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told reporters that the government is of the view that beacons on vehicles are symbols of VIP culture and have no place in a democratic country. However, beacons will be allowed on vehicles dealing with emergency in relief services, ambulance and fire services. Road, Transport and Highways Ministry will make necessary provisions in motar vehicles rules.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said, the red beacons symbols are out of touch with the spirit of new India as every Indian is special and every Indian is a VIP. Replying to tweets over the government's decision of barring the use of red beacons atop vehicles, Mr. Modi said, it should have gone long ago. He said, he is glad that a strong beginning has been made.
