Govt. assures to fill vacancies for blind

The government today assured the National Federation of the Blind to fill up the backlog of vacancies by launching a special recruitment drive. The General Secretary of the Federation S.K. Rungta told AIR that the assurance was given by the Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training in a meeting with representatives of the Federation at New Delhi. He said that more than 50,000 vacancies are lying vacant since 1996 for the disabled out of which 14,000 posts are earmarked for visually challenged. Mr. Rungta also urged the government to issue instructions in this regard at the earliest.<br/><br/>
