Govt. asks pilots to end stalemate in public interest; 46 AI flights cancelled today

The Government has said that the strike by the Pilots of Air India must end immediately in the interest of public and has asked the management of the national carrier to enter into dialogue with all sections of its employees. The Civil Aviation Secretary Mr.M.Madhavan Nambiar said the disruption of flights is causing immesne hardship to the public and bringing disrepute to the airlines. He said that in these circusmtances the employees and the management must cooperate for the turnaround of the airlines. The Civil Aviation Secretary assured that the Air India Management has not taken any decision on the cut of Productivity Linked Incentives or any allowance. He said that matter will be examined by the panel set up for the purpose in consultation with employees.46 flights of Air India had to be cancelled today with over 180 pilots reproting sick. As reported Airindia has put on hold further bookings till the 15th of next month.Meanwhile, private airlines have been requested to accommodate the passengers already booked on the national carrier whose flights are being cancelled. The Civil Aviation Secretary today held a meeting with senior officials of all private airlines to work out an alternate plan to ease the inconvenience caused to the passengers. He has also asked them not to escalate fares so that passengers are put to the mumumum hardship.The Executive Pilots of the National carriers have been reported sick for duties since Saturday to press their demands including the withdrawal of the order to cut prodcutivity linked incentives.Our correspondent says Air India has already incurred a loss of 80 crore rupees due to the cancellation of the price in the last three days.Meanwhile, India Railways have decided to open temporary counters at major airports across the country for the benefit of passengers who cannot due to the ongoing strike by Air India. According to official sources, the Railways will also set up co-ordination desks at the airports to guiide passengers to use the railway travel option.
