Govt asks countrymen to remain resolute and united in combating terrorism

The government today unequivocally condemned the Delhi High Court terror attack and asked the countrymen to remain resolute and united in combating terrorism. Making a statement in the House, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said that some intelligence was received in July on the possible attacks but despite the high alertness of Delhi Police, the high intensity blast was carried out.

He informed that according to last reports, nine people have died and 47 have been injured. Most of the injured have been removed to Dr. RML hospital. Some have been removed to AIIMS and other nearby hospitals. Some of the injured have suffered serious injuries.

A few others with minor injuries are being treated at the dispensary of the High Court. He assured the House that best medical treatment will be given to the injured.

The Home Minister said CFSL, NIA/NSG and post-blast investigation team of Delhi Police have reached the spot. The investigation of the case is being entrusted to the NIA.

Saying that it is too early to identify the group responsible for the blast, the Home Minister asserted the resolve of the government to track down the perpetrators of horrific crime and bring them to justice.

The Members strongly condemned the horrific incident and demanded stringent action against those involved in the terror attack. Expressing his concern, Senior BJP leader, Mr L K Advani reminded that Delhi is a frequent target of terror attacks.

He suggested that the house be adjourned for the day. Mr Basudev Acharya of the CPIM called for united fight against terrorism. He pointed out that this is the second blast on the same spot within four months.

Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party, suggested that adequate financial assistance and job opportunities to the next of the kin of the killed in the attack. Mr Sharad Yadav of JD(U) urged the government to take sufficient preventive measures to deter the recurrence of such incidents.

Later, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Karia Munda, adjourned the House as a mark to express sympathy of the house to the victims.
