Govt asks automobile industries to move to clean and green technology: Praful Patel

The government has asked the automobile industry to move to clean and green technology. Inaugurating the 51st conclave of the automobile manufactures in New Delhi today, the Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Mr. Praful Patel also exhorted the industry to explore options for future fuel efficient technologies for vehicles.

Pointing out that automobile industry comprise 22 per cent of manufacturing GDP, the minister said that but 2020 about 10 million vehicles will be on the roads from 2.5 million currently. Mr. Patel, however, expressed concerned that there were not adequate infrastructure available either in urban or rural India for this overload.

He asserted that along with infrastructure building by the government in private partnership, the auto industry will have to re-distribute itself in the longer development of the country.

Assuring all help, the minister said that the government would be happy to see a sustained growth in the industry.
