Govt approves total outlay of over two lakh thirty one thousand crore rupees for RTE and SSA

The government has approved a total outlay of over two lakh thirty one thousand crore rupees for the implementation of both the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme for a five year period from 2010-11 to 2014-15. Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said, in addition, a revised fund sharing pattern in the 65 : 35 ratio between the Centre and States has been notified for implementation of the modified SSA programme from 2010-11 onwards. He said, however, the Centre and State fund sharing pattern in respect of the states in the North Eastern Region will continue to be in the ratio of 90:10. Replying to another question, Mr Sibal said over 5 lakh teachers, 3 lakh part-time instructors and an additional 14.25 lakh class rooms are required for implementation of the RTE Act of 2009, which has come into force with effect from April this year. He said the Centre has revised the norms of SSA programme to correspond with the provisions of the RTE Act.
