The government has approved a proposal to set up an Information Telechnology, IT platform to integrate Central and State indirect tax regime. Minister of State for Finance S.S. Palanimanickam said that IT platform is being created to implement Goods and Services Tax, GST in the country. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister said, implementation of GST requires a strong IT infrastructure and Service backbone. It will help in processing and exchange of information amongst the various stakeholders. The Minister said that the government has also approved a Special Purpose Vehicle, SPV in this connection. He informed that GST network SPV will host a portal that could be shared by all the States and the Centre. Mr. Palanimanickam said that the integration of central and state indirect tax regime would benefit the tax payers by providing them standard and
uniform interface. It would also assist in creating a national level Unique and Shared Tax Payer registration database.
