Govt approves allocation of 65 lakh tonnes of wheat for bulk

The government has approved allocation of 65 lakh tonnes of wheat for tender sale by Food Corporation of India to bulk consumers and traders in the open market.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA, has also approved 5 lakh tonnes of wheat and rice each for sale to the retail consumers through the States, Union Territories governments and national cooperatives like Kendriya Bhandar and NAFED.

An official release said the sale of wheat and rice under Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) will increase the availability of these commodities in the market and have moderating influence on the prices in the open market
