Govt announces setting up of 7th Central Pay Commission

The government today announced setting up of the Seventh Central Pay Commission. A Finance Ministry statement said the Prime Minister approved the constitution of the commission whose recommendations are to be implemented from 1st January, 2016. The statement added the names of the chairperson and members as well as terms of reference of the pay commission will be finalised and announced shortly after consulations with major stakeholders.
Our correspondent reports, the recommendations of the previous pay commission were implemented from 1st January, 2006 .
The Congress has welcomed the constitution of the seventh pay commission. Party spokesperson Ajay Maken said on Twitter that the move will help the government in attracting and also retaining the best of talent as its employees. He also recalled that the NDA government had rejected the sixth pay commission in 2003.
