Govt announces series of concessions in Health, Sericulture, branded garments

Government has announced abolition of five percent service tax in the health sector. The finance minister had proposed this tax for hospitals with over 25 beds. The tax was also extended to all diagnostic services. Moving the finance bill in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee said that this abolition will be in practice till GST comes into play. In yet another measure to help the small sector garment sector in exports he announced concessions for the exporters whose annual turn over is below nine crores rupees. He said he has already proposed reduction in custom duty on raw silk from 30 percent to five percent. In his brief response, Mr. Mukherjee said that the budget aims at strengthening the domestic macro-economic environment in the medium term. He also said that some bills to carry forward economic reforms will also be introduced in the current session.
