Govt announces Rs. 90 lakh cash reward for Rio Paralympics winners

The government announced a total cash reward of 90 lakh Rupees for the medal winners of Rio Paralympics. According to an official statement, Gold medal winners, paralympic high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu and Javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia will be rewarded with 30 lakh Rupees each. Deepa Malik, who won a silver medal in shotput, will be rewarded 20 lakh Rupees and high jumper Varun Singh Bhati, who won a bronze medal at the Rio games, will be given 10 lakh Rupees.The cash reward will be given by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot under the Awareness Generation and Publicity (AGP) scheme. Gehlot said, the success of para athletes has made India proud. The department has decided to give a cash prize of total 90 lakh Rupees to the medal winners. It was India's best-ever performance in Paralympics history .
