The Centre today announced nearly 10-fold increase in the assistance provided towards the repair work of properties damaged during the action of<br/><br/>security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The new scheme by central government provides for the compensation of up to 10 lakhs rupees, of which 70 per cent can be used for capital assets like houses damaged during<br/><br/>anti-militancy operations and remaining 30 per cent for other properties of owners or tenants.<br/><br/>Earlier, the state government had provided an ex-gratia relief equal to half of the loss incurred due to sabotage by terrorists. Maximum compensation provided under the scheme was one lakh rupees. <br/><br/>The new scheme has given nearly 10-fold increase to the maximum compensation and takes care of the damage suffered by the tenants who were not covered in the state government's scheme. <br/><br/>This scheme subsumes the existing scheme of the state government, a Home Ministry spokesperson said in New Delhi. He said the compensation package will be scrutinised by a committee comprising Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent of Police, Executive Engineer, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Central Paramilitary Forces before being sanctioned.
