Govt announces passenger friendly measures in civil aviation sector

Government today announced a few passenger friendly measures in the civil aviation sector including adequate compensation in case of flight cancellation. Addressing media persons in New Delhi, Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju said airlines will be made to offer ten thousand rupees as compensation in case of flight cancellation within 24 hours. <br/><br/>He said regulations are being made to improve facilities for the differently-abled people. Their compensation will be enhanced upto 20 thousand rupees in case of denied boarding. He said the airlines would also have to ensure that refunds are processed within 15 days for domestic passengers.<br/><br/>Mr Raju said the rule will be applicable even in the case when the tickets are booked by the passengers through travel agents or online portals. He said that the cancellation amount cannot exceed the basic fare and there shall be no additional charge to process the refund.<br/><br/>The Minister said the refunds will be applicable on all fares including promotional and special fares. However, the onus will be on passenger to decide the amount to be received in cash or credit.<br/><br/>Mr Raju also said excess baggage of upto 5 kg beyond 15 kg will not to be charged more than 100 rupees per kg.
