Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today spoke to Sachin Tendulkar to congratulate him for being chosen for the Bharat Ratna. PMO sources said, Dr. Singh made the telephone call to Tendulkar soon after the announcement of the award and wished him many more years of contribution to sports.
The Prime Minister also called up to congratulate eminent scientist C .N. R. Rao who has also been awarded the Bharat Ratna. He wished him many more years of service to the field of science.
Both, Tendulkar and C.N.R.Rao are recipients of Padma Vibhushan, the country's second highest civilian honour. They join a list of 41 eminent personalities chosen for the award given in recognition of exceptional service of the highest order since the award was instituted in 1954.
Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Jitendra Singh has congratulated Sachin Tendulkar for successfully completing his distinguished and inspiring career. Describing him as one of the finest examples of sportsmen India ever had, the Sports minister said, Sachin's experience in the field of cricket would enthuse other sports disciplines.
Governor of Maharashtra K. Sankaranarayanan has congratulated legendary cricketer Sachin Tedulkar on being named the recipient of the prestigious Bharat Ratna award today. In his message the Governor has said that by conferring the Bharat Ratna to legendary player Sachin Tendulkar, the Government has fulfilled the dream of his countless admirers and the game of cricket. The governor also said that there could not have been a more appropriate timing to declare the award than this day when his illustrious test match career ended on a high note with the win against the West Indies.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan also congratulated Tendulkar. He said that Sachin Tendulkar will always remain an inspiration for the youths as he has set an example that anyone who wants to create niche in their desired filed can make their way to great success. Deputy Chief Minster Ajit Pawar said that it’s a moment of pride for every Indian.
