The Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs and Small and Medium Enterprises Vayalar Ravi has called for an image make over for coir products to make it more acceptable in the international and domestic markets.Addressing the inaugural of the Coir Tech Expo organised by the Coir Board in Kochi on Sunday, he said the union government has increased the allocation to the coir sector from 251 crore rupees in the 11th Plan to 870 crore rupees in the 12th plan, which would help to further strengthen the coir sector. He noted that the country's coir exports which was 597 crores five years ago, has now doubled to 1052 crore rupees.The Union Minister assured help to those who had incurred losses because of the implementation of the Remote Project. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inagurated the five day Coir Tech Expo.
