Govt. allows to export 4 lakh tonnes of wheat to Bangladesh

The government has allowed the export of 4 lakh tonnes of wheat to Bangladesh from the central pool. In a notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said the prohibition shall not be applicable to the export of 4 lakh tonnes of wheat to Bangladesh.There has been a ban on export of wheat since October, 2007, which the government has relaxed from time-to-time on diplomatic grounds. Earlier, in February, the export of 50,000 tonnes of the foodgrain was allowed to Nepal. AIR correspondent reports, the government expects wheat procurement in the 2010-11 marketing year (April-March) to exceed last year's record of 25.30 million tonnes and reach 26.2 million tonnes.
