Govt all set to re-launch Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in six states

Government is all set to re-launch the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in six states for upgradation of existing road networks and with scope for new projects in these areas.The six states are Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana and Nagaland.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi today ,Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh said,while the focus of the Yojana is on providing new road connectivity to rural areas, the new scheme will target upgradtion of existing road networks, including those in tribal areas and villages located on the border.

Ramesh said the concerns expressed by Tribal Affairs Ministry on road connectivity for villages with less than 250 habitation and villages on border areas will be addressed under it.The Ministry is also exploring the possibility of extending PMGSY-II in villages located in border areas.He said, the issue regarding connectivity of border villages was raised by Union Surface Transport Minister C P Joshi.
