Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari today said the Government is aiming to construct 40 Kilo Metres of road every day in the country by next year. Addressing ASEAN-INDIA Connectivity Summit in New Delhi, Mr Gadkari said, India has made significant strides as far as construction of National Highways are concerned. <br/><br/>He said, recently the Centre has approved construction of over 34 thousand kilometres of road network over the next five years under the Bharatmala Pariyojana. He said, river and port connectivity is very important for boosting trade and investment in India as well as in the ASEAN region. <br/><br/>He said, Government is focusing on road, shipping and digital network to increase business relations with ASEAN nations.<br/><br/>In his address, Minister of State for External Affairs Gen V K Singh stressed on reestablishing the connectivity between India and ASEAN countries as it was in the past. He said, there is a strong case for improving maritime connectivity between Indian and ASEAN islands. Mr Singh said, the efforts are now towards sharing gains from reforms with ASEAN countries. He said, on the air front, India has already given access to ASEAN countries to tier one cities.
