Govt aims at 2.5 times increase in award, construction of National Highways for 2016-17

Government has fixed a 2.5 times increase in the target for award and construction of National Highways for the year 2016-17. Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed confidence that the pace of development, which was established last year will result in even better outcomes during the current year. <br/><br/>He said, the Ministry has set a target of 25,000 kilometre of National Highways to be awarded in the current financial year as against the 10,000 kilometre awarded in 2015-16. The construction target has been set at 15,000 kilometre as against the 6000 kilometre last year. <br/><br/>The Minister said, works on a length of more than ten thousand kilometre were awarded for the very first time and the completion of construction of 6000 km marked a year-over-year increase of nearly 36 per cent. He said, the speeding up of road projects has been made possible due to several policy interventions.
