The government has agreed to the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe into the 2G spectrum scam. Announcing this in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said a formal resolution in this regard will be moved soon. The Prime Minister requested the Loksabha Speaker Mrs. Meira Kumar to proceed with the formation of a JPC. Referring to the winter session of parliament being lost due to the controversy, Dr Manmohan Singh said that the country can ill afford a situation where Parliament is paralysed.Soon after the Prime Minister made his statement, the opposition party leader in Lok sabha Mrs Sushma Swaraj, welcomed the government decision and said it should not seen a victory or a defeat of any one party, but a victoryof democracy. Mulayam Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party said that with the announcement regarding the JPC, proper outcome can be expected. Gurudas Dasgupta of CPI said that it is better late than never.
