The government today agreed to discuss the unprecedented violence in the Gaza strip and West Bank of Palestine in Rajya Sabha.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prakash Javadekar said in the Rajya Sabha that the government is ready to discuss the matter as Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari gave a ruling to discuss.
The Minister said the Business Advisory Committee of the Upper House will meet this afternoon to decide the date and time for taking up the discussion.
Despite the government’s assurance, opposition parties continued the uproar demanding immediate discussion.
Earlier, the House witnessed repeated adjournments in the pre-lunch session over taking up the discussion on Gaza violence. Since yesterday, opposition parties have been insisting on taking up the matter for discussion.
The Government, which was initially not in favour of any discussion on the issue, agreed today after the Chairman’s ruling.
The house witnessed arguments and counter arguments between the treasury and opposition benches. As the uproar continued, Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien adjourned the House till 2 PM.
The house has since resumed business .
