The Governor of Uttarakhand Margaret Alva has emphasised the need for establishment of a facilitation cell at the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped (NIVH) for extending fullest advantage of the government pension scheme to persons with disabilities. On the occasion of Louis Braille Day on Tuesday, the Governor said, persons with disabilities need to fully access the disability pension provision of the government. She said that a facilitation counter should not only render assistance in the identification of persons with disabilities but also help them in completion of necessary formalities such as filling up pension application forms, among other things. The Governor outlined the historical contribution of Louis Braille in the development of the Braille script. She also conferred 'NIVH Excellence Awards' to TD Chakravarty, Assistant Editor at Madras High Court, Ms. Nupur Jain, Senior Executive at Wipro, Shri TD Dinkar, Divisional Personnel Officer in Indian Railways, Ajay Dhanak, Assistant Manager in Dr. Reddy's Lab and Ms. Jyotsana, Bank Probationary Officer. The Governor also gave away certificates of appreciation to three NIVH departments viz., the Braille Press, the Rehabilitation and Counselling Department and the Training Centre for the Adult Blind, for their contribution to the development of the Institute. In addition, the Governor also gave best employee certificates four NIVH personnel for their special contribution to the Institute's functioning.
