The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh today said his government's aim is a growth rate of nine to ten per cent in the medium term. Dr. Singh said to achieve this; productivity across all sectors of the economy should be enhanced. The prime minister was speaking after giving Shram awards for the year 2005, 2006 and 2007. He said country's resources are limited and need to be utilised optimally. Dr Singh said the government is working to achieve the objective of having skilled work force that can meet the requirement of growing economy in the 21st century. Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said that the government has declared the national policy on safety, health and environment at work place in 2009 to give a clear direction regarding occupational safety and health issues. He said that more employment opportunities should be created to optimise our human resources.
