Government wants to restrict role of State in doing business: Finance Minister<br/>

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that Government wants to restrict the role of State in doing business. Speaking at the launch event of the Start-up India initiative in New Delhi today, Mr Jaitley said, India sensibly broke away from the Licence Raj in 1991, but that break was only partial. Now the efforts are to further restrict the role of the government and ideal situation for a start-up is to have complete freedom from the government.The Minister said, start-up India movement will give freedom from the State and the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion will work as a facilitator. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi&apos;s own idea was that start-ups need to be encouraged and banking system and government will make the resources available. Mr Jaitley said, more entrepreneur-friendly measures will come in the upcoming Union Budget with friendly taxation regime for start-up.The Minister said, Foreign Direct Investment is coming in a big way to India. The world universally recognises India as probably fastest growing amongst the major economies, but India is not without its own challenges. The Minister expressed hope that start-up India will change conventions.He informed that Stand Up India movement will be separately launched and it will be more targetted towards women and entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds. Speaking on the occasion, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in the last one-year, there has been 40 per cent increase in financing of start-ups in India. She said, government would look at removing clutters so that start-ups can focus on core business. She added that for the start-up ecosystem already created in India, government would become the facilitator. She said, Commerce and Industry Ministry is working with various ministries for greater synergy.
