Government to reassert authority in Maoist areas: Chidambaram

<br/>Centre today asked naxal affected states to have proper coordination to deal with this left wing violence. Talking to reporters after a meeting of three affected states in Raipur today, the Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram asserted that states are competent to tackle the issue and the role of the centre is to provide troops and the technology to them. Mr. Chidambaram refused to deploy the army to fight naxal menace and said state police forces are competent to tackle it. Mr. Chidambaram is in Raipur to review the situation of anti-naxal operations in Chattisgarh, Orissa and Maharashtra. Replying to reporters in Raipur today Mr. Chidambaram said that the state police are competent to fight the left wing violence. <br/> The meeting was attended by Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Orissa Mr Naveen Patnaik and Home Minister of Maharashtra Mr.R.R.Patil along with Home Minister of Chhattisgarh and high level officials of centre and these three states.
