Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy said, the government is seized of the matter and taking all steps to ensure the security of women and the general public in the National Capital. Speaking to the media, he requested the protestors to cooperate with the government and not to resort to violent agitations. He said, the government is observing restraint and the police have also been told to observe maximum restraint.
Mr. Narayanasamy said, the Delhi Government has also taken all possible steps to take the gangrape case of the paramedic student to its logical conclusion. He also said, Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had also announced in Parliament the several safety measures taken by the government to enhance security.
Meanwhile the BJP has sought a special session of Parliament to be convened to discuss the need for stringent laws and severe punishment against rape incidents. Senior Party leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok sabha Sushma Swaraj said, she has spoken to the Prime minister for a special session of Parliament to provide exemplary punishment for crimes against women. She said, Prime minister Manmohan has told her that he will consider her suggestion.
Mrs. Swaraj said she has also spoken to women and Child development minister Mrs Krishna Tirath in this regard. Aam Admi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal also wanted the President to call a special session of Parliament to enact strong laws against rape.
