Government proposes to amend the 1883 Telegraph Act to regulate and control of use of passive interception of telephones. <br/><br/>Home Secretary GK Pillai said in New Delhi that the process of drafting the amendments will begin from tomorrow and the ministry is keen to place in Parliament for approval in the monsoon session.<br/><br/>The phone tapping controversy figured prominently in the just concluded budget session of Parliament.Opposition demanded a JPC to look into the issue of phone tapping by National Technical Research Organisation.<br/><br/>The Home Minister Mr.P Chidambaram had assured the members to fully investigate the matter.The issue of amendment in the Telegraph Act was strongly pleaded by the veteran BJP leader Mr.LK Advani while speaking on the alleged phone tapping controversy.
