The Government is considering increase in wage ceiling for the employees of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Employees State Insurance Act.

Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya said, during 2014-15, up to November, a total of 56 proposals from State Governments, including 28 from Kerala were received for implementation of ESI scheme in new areas. Replying to the supplimentaries in the Lok Sabha during question hour he said, all the 56 proposals have been brought under coverage of the ESI scheme and a notifications have been issued.

Replying to a query relating to setting up of new ESI medical colleges, the Minister said, the workers do not want their surplus money to be invested in medical education.
