Government today said it is making all possible efforts to pass a strong Lokpal Bill in the winter session of Parliament, to deal with corruption. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Bansal expressed hope that the Standing Committee on the Lokpal Bill will submit its report during the session.
Charging the BJP with politicizing the issue, he said that the party has no consistent stand on corruption. He urged Anna Hazare who is spearheading the movement against corruption to create awareness about corruption rather than politicizing the issue.
Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid sought the support of the opposition for the early passage of the Bill.
Congress spokesman Rashid Alvi said that government is committed to bringing a strong Lokpal bill at the earliest.
BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that the government has no intention to pass the bill.
Earlier in the day, Anna Hazare, speaking from his native village in Maharashtra said that he will campaign against the Congress party in election-bound states if the Centre fails to get his version of the anti- corruption bill passed in the Winter session. He announced that he will begin his tour of five election-bound states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur between October 13th and 15th.
