Government justifies police action to end Ram Dev’s agitation

Government has justified the police action to end Ram Dev's agitation saying the Yoga Guru had violated the undertaking for permission and had even backed out on his assurances. Union Minister Kapil Sibal, who was holding negotiations with Ram Dev over the last few days, said today that, there were apprehensions about the law and order situation in Delhi.To a question, he said the party and the government were united on the police action. Mr. Sibal rejected BJP's charges and alleged that Ram Dev was in league with the RSS as he referred to the presence of Sadhvi Ritambhara in his protest. Speaking in the same vein Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay said that discussions were being held with Ram Dev for more than 20 days and the government's intentions were clear on tackling the issue of corruption and black money.Responding to questions in New Delhi, Special Commissioner of Police Dharmendra Kumar said the permission to the Yoga camp was cancelled as there was great terrorist threat to Baba and one of his associates. Apart from this he said that, there was great rush of people to the venue which was already overcrowded. Defending police action he said, that the ugly scene could have been averted had the Baba listened to the Police who informed him about the cancellation of the permission to the yoga camp. Reacting to the development, Leader of the Opposition belonging to the Congress in Uttarakhand Assembly, Harak Singh Rawat briefing media persons in Dehradun leveled allegations of corruption against Baba Ram Dev and demanded a high level inquiry against him and his Ashram. Congress leader Digvijay Singh justified the action against Baba Ram Dev. Mr. Singh accused him of inciting people despite striking a deal with the government for ending his protest. Mr. Singh also demanded an inquiry into the thousands of crores of rupees of property owned by Ramdev.The opposition on the other hand slammed the police action against Baba Ram Dev's hunger strike.
