President Pranab Mukherjee today called upon the government, the judiciary, National Human Rights Commission and civil society to promote and protect rights of the people in the country.
Addressing a function to mark the National Human Rights Day in New Delhi, Mr. Mukherjee pointed out that good governance is the key to enforcement of rights by the people and focus should be on translating legal and constitutional provisions into reality for the benefit of common man.
Stressing on the significance of economic, social and cultural rights, he said promotion of political rights alone will not lead to full enjoyment of human rights. Mr. Mukherjee also called for including human rights in school curricula to increase awareness
