A Group of Ministers, headed by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, has recommended implementation of SABLA 'Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls in selected 200 districts of the country. <br/><br/>The GoM, which met in New Delhi yesterday, said selection of the these districts will be based on the set of indicators related to health, nutrition and education of adolescent girls. <br/><br/>An amount of 1000 crore rupee is likely to be provided for implementing the scheme, which is expected to be introduced from the current year. <br/><br/>Our correspondent says that the proposed 'SABLA' scheme is a Centrally-sponsored with 100 per cent financial assistance from the Centre for all inputs other than nutrition provision for which centre will share half of the burden. <br/><br/>Besides improving their nutritional and health status, the scheme aims at empowering adolescent girls and upgrading various skills. <br/><br/>The objective of the scheme is also to mainstream out-of-school girls into formal or non-formal education .
