The Group of Ministers, GoM, on the Commonwealth Games headed by the Urban Development Minister Mr. Jaipal Reddy is meeting in New Delhi this evening. The meeting comes after the Prime Minister set up high level committee on Friday to look into matters relating to organising and conduct of the Commonwealth Games. The GoM is likely to focus on how the Organising Committee, OC, spent 1,600 crore rupees given by the Centre and other related issues. The OC Chairman Suresh Kalmadi yesterday met Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, but details of the deliberations are not known.Meanwhile, the Central Vigilance Commission, CVC has widened the scope of its probe into alleged irregularities in organising the Common Wealth Games and projects related to it. The CVC is looking into at least 22 more Games-related construction and procurement works carried out by different government agencies for alleged financial irregularities. The CVC has also asked the Organizing Committee to retain in India for investigations a sample of each item of the equipment and props hired from foreign suppliers for the 17 Games venues. In a related move, both the Income Tax Department and Comptroller and Auditor General, CAG, have also tightened the noose around all the agencies for alleged irregularities. The CAG will start the audit work of Commonwealth Games Village from 28th of this month to probe allegations of financial irregularities.
