GOM for Commonwealth Games convenes its first meeting after sports extravaganza

The Group of Ministers for Commonwealth Games, headed by Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, has convened its first meeting in New Delhi tomorrow after the conclusion of the 12-day sporting extravaganza. CWG Organising Committee Chairman Mr. Suresh Kalmadi called on Mr Jaipal Reddy in New Delhi today. There is no word on what exactly transpired in the meeting between the two.The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) will start the audit work of Commonwealth Games Village from October 28 to probe allegations of financial irregularities. Official sources said the CAG will also audit the accounts of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the expenditure incurred for building residential complexes inside the Village in addition to the alleged undue favours given to a leading real estate group, for its construction.The audit process by CAG teams began in the middle of August. However, it was halted between September 24 and October 14 in view of the Games. The audit resumed last Friday.Delhi PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan today said the state government is ready for any probe into the alleged appropriation of money for the Commonwealth Games projects. He said the departments have already been instructed to prepare the details. The Minister said the Delhi government's conduct has been clean and it will support any investigation to nail the wrong-doers.
