GoM finalises report on Andhra Pradesh bifurcation along with draft Telangana Bill

The Group of Ministers, GoM, set up to look into the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, has finalised its report along with the Draft Telengana Bill. The GoM, which met in New Delhi last evening, discussed various issues concerning bifurcation and distribution of assets between Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh.

After a four-hour meeting, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who heads the GoM, told reporters that some discussions are still left but he remained non-committal as to when the GoM will submit its report to the Union Cabinet. The Cabinet is scheduled to meet today in New Delhi.

Our correspondent reports that once the Cabinet clears the proposal, it will go to the President, who will refer it to Andhra Pradesh Assembly for approval. However, the Assembly resolution is not binding under the Constitution.

The Union Cabinet then can consider the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill and with Union Cabinet's approval, it will send it to the President before being tabled in Parliament during Winter Session commencing on 5th December.
