GoM approves Mining Bill with 26 per cent profit-sharing mechanism for Coal sector

The country will soon have a benefit-sharing mechanism for those affected by mining project. The new Mining Bill approved by ten- member group of Ministers headed by the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee says that Coal companies will have to share 26 percent profit with the local population. In case of other minerals such as Iron-ore, Bauxite and Lime Stone, the miners will have to share with the locals and amount equal to the royalty paid in the previous year. Mines Minister Dinsha Patel said that the proposal is being put before the Cabinet for approval. The new Mining Bill will put around 10,000 crore rupees at the disposal of the exchequer per year for distribution in nearly 50 top districts of the travel areas where mining activities generally takes place.
