Gold touches record high of Rs 33,900

Gold posted its biggest ever single-day gain of 1,900 rupees, to close at a record high of 33,900 per ten grams at Delhi's bullion market, today, as the rupee hit a new low against the dollar. Silver spurted 3,700 rupees, to 58,500 rupees per kilo, on increased offtake by industrial units and coin-makers. Silver coins surged 3,000 rupees, to 92,000 rupees for buying 100 pieces.

Overseas, gold rose 1.3 per cent, to 1,434 dollars an ounce. Silver added 2.6 per cent, to 25.10 dollars an ounce.
