Gold prices have jumped 34 per cent to 16,080 rupees per ten gram since the last Dhanteras, a day considered auspicious for buying the precious metal. The prices of gold last year on the Dhanteras day ruled at 12,070 rupees per ten gram. Delhi Bullion Market President Surender Jain said, silver has also become costlier at 27,500 rupees per kg from 16,600 rupees per kg in 2008. He said, high prices are deterring buyers' spirit and precious metal sales are down by 50 per cent.
