Gogoi to apprise Centre on separate states' demand issue

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has left for Delhi today to apprise the Centre on the separate states' demand issue. Official sources in Guwahati said that Mr. Gogoi is likely to meet the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister and to appraise them on the separate states’ demand raised by different organizations. The organizations who are demanding separate states, urged the Assam government for tripartite talks.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister held discussion with the representatives of the Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State in Guwahati. The joint forum is demanding an autonomous state under Article 244 (A). They also urged Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to release their arrested leaders. Mr. Gogoi said that government will consider their demands as per merits.

The Assam government already held discussions with All Koch-Rajbonshi Students Union who is demanding Kamatapur state and All Bodo Students Union and Bodo National Conference on separate state issue.

Meanwhile, All Bodo Students Union has held cycle rallies in several parts of the state, demanding separate state. AICC General Secretary Abhinash Pandey is in Assam to study the separate states' demand.
