Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said a breakthrough is expected on the much-awaited ULFA Government peace talks by January next year. He said the response for talks from the banned outfit has been quite satisfactory. The Centre has entrusted the Chief Minister to finalize modalities for the proposed talks. The Government earlier fixed the deadline for the talks in December this year. However, the deadline has been deferred subject to granting bails to the detained leaders of the outfit. While speaking to newsmen in Guwahati, Mr. Gogoi reiterated that any group indulging in violent activities would be dealt with firm hand. He said security sources have identified the culprits behind recent killing of 24 persons by the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in different parts of the State, of whom one has been arrested. He further informed that the security forces are working in tandem with its counterparts in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya as there were reports indicating that some of the cadres could be holed up in the neighbouring States.
