Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has appealed to the militant outfits operating in the State to lay down arms and come for peace negotiations with the Government. He said no problem can be settled through violent means. He said the Government will put all its efforts to eliminate insurgency from the State this year. The Chief Minister was addressing a press conference at Guwahati this afternoon on the occasion of the New Year. Mr. Gogoi asked the people of the State and different organizations to stay away from giving bandh calls as it hampers development and hit normal life. He asked those organizations to take up their issues with the Government for amicable settlement. Mr. Gogoi stated his Government will accord high priority to mitigate the Brahmaputra river bank erosion problem in the New Year 2012. The problem has threatened existence of thousands of villages besides damaging the agricultural lands to a greater extent in different parts of the State. Border development, education, employment generation and boosting health facilities will be other priority sectors. Gogoi announced that a super specialty hospital will be set up in Guwahati within next one year. Fifty bedded cancer wings will also be set up in all the four medical colleges of the State to facilitate treatment of cancer patients.
