Goa's Mormugao port to soon get deepest draft in India

In a major boost to the maritime infrastructure Mormugao port in Goa will soon have the deepest draft in India. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated the work of capital dredging of the navigational Channel at Cruise Berth in Mormugaon. <br/><br/>Inaugurating the dredging work Shri Gadkari said Mormugao will be the first port in the country with a draft of 19.5 metres. A vessel of 1.85 Lakh tonne capacity will be able to embark in Mormugaon port after the completion of dredging work. Presently the port can handle only up to 80 thousand tonne vessals. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was present on the occasion.
