The Goa Sessions Court has rejected Tarun Tejpal's anticipatory bail petition. The court after hearing the the arguments from the Public Prosecutor and Tejpal's lawyer this afternoon had reserved its order till 4:30 PM. The details of the court's order , which was pronounced a short while ago, are awaited.
Public Prosecutor Saresh Lotlikar in his arguments had contended that prima facie a case is established against Tejpal and so the police want his custodial interrogation. He noted that the victim has been consistent in her statements. Lotlikar said the CCTV footage of the hotel in Goa where the incident occurred early this month gives enough hints confirming the allegation of rape. The public prosecutor also argued that Tejpal was not available for Goa Police and appeared only after getting interim relief from court. Tejpal's lawyer Geeta Luthra argued that Tejpal is ready to stay in Goa till the time it is required by the investigating agency. She ruled out the possibility of Tejpal fleeing the country.
Earlier Goa police had sought from the court non-bailable warrant against Tejpal after he missed the 3.00 p.m deadline to present himself before the Investigating Officer on Friday. Agency reports say Tejpal had arrived at the Crime Branch office of Goa police around 4.30 pm.
