Goa Pradesh Youth Congress demands formation of youth policy

The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) has demanded that the state Government frame a youth policy, constitute a Goa state youth welfare Board and revive the Goa Youth awards. AIR Panaji correspondent reports, Goa Pradesh Youth Congress President Sankalp Amonker today presented a memorandum to the chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat, on the 66th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi demanding a youth policy for Goa, constituting a Goa state youth welfare board and reviving the Goa youth awards. He said,it was Rajiv Gandhi's dream to empower the youth of India thus making his birth anniversary an apt time to make such a demand. He lamented that although Youth comprise about 60% of Goa's population the govt. has not given any thought to framing a policy for the youth of Goa. He said youth congress will not only ensure that the Govt. frames such a policy but will also monitor its implementation. Mr. Amonker said the policy could address issues concerning youth with problems. He demanded that the govt. constitute a state youth welfare boarsd as done in various states in the country. The GPYC also demanded that the Govt. revive the Goa state youth awards. He said if this is not done the youth congress will form a five member panel to constitute its own youth awards for Goa and announce it on August 9, the youth day.
