Goa polls: Campaigning to end this evening, voting on Saturday

In Goa, campaigning for assembly elections comes to an end this evening. Polling for 40 constituencies of the state will be held in single phase on Saturday. 215 candidates are in fray out of which 74 are independent and 9 are women candidates. The main contest in the Goa Assembly Elections would be between the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party and Maharshtrawadi Gomantak Party combine.The election rallies of the prominent leaders of various political parties were held in different constituencies in the two-week long electoral campaign. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh addressed an election rally at Sanquelim in North Goa on the penultimate day of the campaign yesterday. Bharatiya Janata Party President Mr. Nitin Gadkari addressed the election rallies at Mandrem and Mapusa. Meanwhile, the Election Commission is also gearing up poll Preparations to ensure free and fair polling all over the state.
